Are you in the mood for something radically different from your normal routine? If so, you should consider drinking chai latte tea. What is that, you might ask. Chai latte tea is a hot, spicy tea beverage. Unlike most other varieties of tea, it is contains a weak milk froth, similar to what you might order with a cappuccino. While the root word, chai, is Chinese for tea, the actual drink comes from India, where foods are often quite spicy. In general, the base of this drink contains a dark black tea, which prevents it from being overpowered by the cinnamon and milk froth. Typically, this drink will also contain other flavorings, such as ginger, cloves, and even black pepper.

It is interesting to note that chai (rhymes with tie) actually means tea in many countries. Search around and you will find a number of different recipes for making your own tea at home. Experimentation will lead you down a delicious path to finding your favorite version of this spicy classic. If time is not available to make chai tea from scratch, several alternatives are available. For instance, many tea manufacturers have tea bags available for purchase in grocery stores and tea specialty shops. Many of these vendors have virtual shops online with a wide array of choices. Another alternative is to use a liquid concentrate. Generally such a concentrate can be mixed with warm milk to achieve a great tasting latte. Of course there is always Starbucks for those who prefer to have someone else make their specialty drinks. You can't go wrong when one of the coffee shop pros makes the drink for you.

As you would expect with most teas, chai latte tea will pack some serious benefits for your bodily health; however, it is important to note to that black tea is usually less health beneficial than other forms of tea. It is oxidized over the longest period of time; and in the process loses a lot of its nutritional value. Additionally, with the added ingredients of both milk and sugar, it is not a low calorie drink. A better bet is to enjoy the occasional chai latte tea by savoring every drop and fill in the gaps with lower calorie tea to reap additional health benefits.
